Christopher Nguyen’s introduction to college life has been a little unconventional, to say the least. Despite the strangeness of the past year, Nguyen is rolling with the punches and stepping confidently into his college career with the help of the Nebraska College Preparatory Academy.

In the eyes of a less-knowledgeable crowd, and particularly one in a heavily white state, it may have seemed like just another dance. However, the routine symbolized a long-standing tradition for many Black Nebraska athletes. Stepping is widely performed by Black fraternities and sororities for multiple purposes, such as sending a message or simply for entertainment.

In the twilight hours one evening last week, about 200 Huskers powered up their Zoom personas one more time before calling it a day - yet it wasn't for another class lecture or remote concert. For a couple hours, the students casually scrolled and virtually strolled the annual SpringFest Club Fair, hosted by Student Involvement.
