Five Nebraska senators shared the civility lessons they’ve learned and practiced on the floor of the country’s only unicameral, non-partisan legislature during a Nov. 19 panel discussion that capped the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Peace and Civility project.

On a campus of 30,000 people, clashing viewpoints are inevitable. Approaching those disagreements with respect, empathy and understanding makes all the difference. Students at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln had that idea in mind when they created Converge Nebraska, a program that brings together Huskers of different political ideologies for conversations about their beliefs.

In an era where extreme viewpoints hinder national debate and social interactions, a student-led project is encouraging civil discourse at University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
