Tuesday, September 28, 2021 NU’s new gender and chosen name policy promotes inclusion

[Daily Nebraskan] Students can identify a chosen name by accessing their student information system with no documentation needed. From there, the student’s chosen name will be used “wherever possible in the course of University education, business and communication,” according to the policy statement.

Monday, September 27, 2021 Rainbow Ball set for Oct. 8

The LGBTQA+ inclusive homecoming dance is 8 to 11 p.m. Oct. 8 in the Kauffman Academic Residential Center. The event will feature music, dancing, light refreshments and a photo booth.

Currently in its first year, the Dining Student Leadership Program is a pilot program actively recruiting up to 35 first-year students who qualify for federal work-study. Participants will not only gain valuable experience for other fields and professions, but will provide an essential service to the campus community.

For students who want gender affirming clothes, the team at the LGBTQA+ Center created a place to discreetly get free identity-affirming clothing and accessories. The Lavender Closet will have its grand reopening on Friday, Sept. 3 at 10 a.m. on the third floor of the Nebraska Union.

Coffee Talks meet Mondays and Thursdays at 3:30 p.m. in the Nebraska Union.

Following more than a year of discussion, review and implementation, the University of Nebraska system has launched a Chosen Name and Gender Identity Policy, allowing students, faculty and staff at all NU campuses — including UNL — to select their chosen name, gender identity and pronouns.
