On Friday, March 16, nearly 40 Student Affairs employees at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln attended a presentation on Freedom of Expression and the Law. Dr. Josephine Potuto, the Richard H. Larson Professor of Constitutional Law at the Nebraska College of Law, provided an overview of the First Amendment and its applications in the campus environment.

Student Affairs professionals are invited to participate in the spring 2018 professional development workshop, focusing on freedom of expression in the college campus environment.

On Friday, Mar. 16, Josephine (Jo) Potuto, Richard H. Larson Professor of Constitutional Law in the Nebraska College of Law, will present on the legal intricacies of freedom of expression and academic freedom.

Josh Overocker joined the Office of Students Affairs as associate vice chancellor for student affairs. He started working in the new role February 26.

Thursday, March 1, 2018 Registration open for the Assessment and Impact Summit, workshop proposal deadline extended

On Wednesday, May 9, staff from across the Nebraska campus will come together to strengthen our capacity as a data-informed campus through the Assessment and Impact Summit. Co-hosted by Student Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness and Analytics, the summit offers employees the opportunity to share assessment practices, review policies with campus collaborators and hear examples of the impact and change inspired by data.

Tuesday, February 20, 2018 Leadership Retreat encourages division-wide strategic thinking

On Thursday, Feb. 15, over 55 leaders from Student Affairs units met to jump-start the strategic planning process for FY18. Interim Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Laurie Bellows implemented planning retreats to increase communication between units and levels within the division.

During this retreat, staff worked toward finalizing language for new mission, vision and values statements; solidifying strategic priorities; crafting organization-wide goals; and discussing diversity initiatives—both currently taking place and new ideas for development.

Staff at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln can learn fundamental assessment practices, review policies with campus collaborators and hear examples of the impact and change inspired by data collection at the Assessment & Impact Summit on May 9, 2018. The Summit seeks to build staff members' skills in assessment to increase data and analytical competencies to improve the student experience.

Monday, January 29, 2018 Greek leaders meet with administrators at ‘Friday Afternoon Collaboration’

Fraternity and sorority presidents at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln kicked off the semester’s ‘Friday Afternoon Collaborations’ program by meeting with Assistant Chief of Police Hassan Ramzah and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Jake Johnson on January 26.

A result of the Greek Vitality movement, the session was an opportunity to increase communication and strengthen the relationship between the Greek organizations and the university.

In an effort to continually enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of its services, the University Health Center (UHC) as expanded its alcohol and other drug programs by adding the Alcohol Psychoeducation Workshop.

Wednesday, December 20, 2017 Office of Student Affairs temporarily moves to old CBA building

On Monday, Dec. 18, the Student Affairs office in Canfield officially closed for renovation. Asbestos abatement will start immediately and renovations are targeted to be complete by Spring Break. In the meantime, Student Affairs has moved to the second floor of the old College of Business Administration, suite 214. The primary Student Conduct and Community Standards office has moved to Canfield 328.

Monday, November 27, 2017 31 students named to ‘Franco’s List’

Thirty-one University of Nebraska-Lincoln students were recently recognized as outstanding agents of character and integrity by being named to "Franco's List."

Tuesday, October 24, 2017 Harris leads conversation on disabilities

On Friday, Oct. 27, more than 70 employees at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln participated in a professional development program on disabilities and interpersonal communication sponsored by Student Affairs. Presenter Richard Harris, retired director of student disability services at Ball State University, addressed common stereotypes through cartoons and led a discussion on how cartoons have brought disability issues to the mainstream.

Friday, April 21, 2017 Staff celebrate the last Franco Friday

On Friday, April 21, the last Franco Friday networking event took place at the Recreation and Wellness Center on East Campus. Prior to the event, Student Affairs Staff Council members encouraged City Campus employees to take the bus to East Campus to broaden their campus knowledge.

The event took place in the new test kitchen where Campus Recreation offered Scooter’s coffee and fruit and yogurt parfaits to attendees.
