A new piece of outdoor equipment at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Recreation and Wellness Center on East Campus may look like a box, but Kelsey Whittaker said it’s much more than just storage. Whittaker, interim assistant director for fitness, said the FitBox is approximately 10 feet by 10 feet and includes items that attach to the container and holds items for use on the new turf area outside the Rec building.

For Lauren Petersen, leaving a legacy at her school meant establishing a new spring break trip through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Outdoor Adventures Center to kayak in the Gulf of California. The political science major will lead five students with minimal sea kayaking experience for six days to explore nature. This is the first time the Outdoor Adventures Center has traveled needing passports in over 10 years.

Kate Suelter, a senior from Omaha, working at Campus Recreation in Injury Prevention and Care is a recipient of the Mid-America Athletic Trainers’ Association post-professional scholarship.

Suelter has worked for Campus Recreation for nearly three years where she serves as a first responder while also leading peers as a teaching assistant and student organization officer. She credits her time as a student employee with developing confidence in her abilities.
