On a warm Friday afternoon, eight fellows visiting Nebraska through the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders volunteered to sort goods at the Homeless Prevention Center as part of the Civic Leadership Institute. The Office of International Engagement, in collaboration with the College of Education and Human Sciences, the College of Journalism and the Center for Civic Engagement, provides leadership for the Institute.

Monday, July 10, 2017 Sororities and fraternities exceed campus average GPAs

The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life grade report from Spring 2017 shows that members of fraternities and sororities are out-performing their peers. The all-Greek female average of 3.438 surpassed the campus female grade point average of a 3.232. Similarly, the all-Greek male average of 3.141 exceeded the campus male grade point average of 2.952.

Pat McBride, associate dean of enrollment management and director of New Student Enrollment, received the Kansas Monk Award during Benedictine College’s reunion weekend on June 17. The award honors graduates who have distinguished themselves in a professional field, shown a prominence of service to the civic community, demonstrated outstanding loyalty to the alma mater and reflected honor on the college through family and social life.

Over the past five months Student Conduct and Community Standards (SCCS) has changed significantly to increase resources for student care and behavioral intervention as well as to implement enforcement of the student code of conduct. Among those changes is the hiring of three new staff members.

Monday, June 12, 2017 LGBTQA+ Resource Center accepts ACPA award

The LGBTQA+ Resource Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln recently accepted the Commitment to Social Justice Education award from the ACPA, an international organization for college student educators.

Selected by the ACPA Commission for Social Justice Educators, this award honors a department, campus, ACPA committee or commission that demonstrates a commitment to social justice education and development, training or programming.

Nebraska faculty member Stephanie Bondi nominated the LGBTQA+ Resource Center for this honor.
