Monday, June 19, 2017 An introduction to Student Conduct and Community Standards
Over the past five months Student Conduct and Community Standards (SCCS) has changed significantly to increase resources for student care and behavioral intervention as well as to implement enforcement of the student code of conduct. Among those changes is the hiring of three new staff members.
At the end of spring semester, two conduct officers began working to address reports of student misconduct. Adam Fitzwater joined SCCS from University Housing where he served as a residence director and, most recently, as the assistant director for residence life (ADRL) for student leadership and diversity initiatives. Nick Shell brings experience from Penn State, where he recently completed his master’s degree in student affairs and served as a graduate student conduct officer.
Both Fitzwater and Shell are experienced in working with students to navigate the conduct process and holding student accountable for their choices and actions. Their perspectives and insights have already proved invaluable as the office transitions to a new conduct management database – Maxient – and is working to revise procedures and practices within SCCS.
Most recently, Kara Brant accepted the position of student support specialist/case manager where she will support students experiencing challenging personal circumstances related to their health and wellness in collaboration with the Big Red Resilience initiative. Brant comes to SCCS from the Departments of Political Science and Sociology where she served as an academic advisor. Her student-centered approach to work and innovative thinking which led to her University of Nebraska Foundation Builder’s Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Academic Advising make her an ideal fit for the support specialist position. Brant begins her new role July 9.
