Pat McBride, recipient of the Kansas Monk Award from Benedictine College.

Pat McBride, associate dean of enrollment management and director of New Student Enrollment, received the Kansas Monk Award during Benedictine College’s reunion weekend on June 17. The award honors graduates who have distinguished themselves in a professional field, shown a prominence of service to the civic community, demonstrated outstanding loyalty to the alma mater and reflected honor on the college through family and social life.

For more than 40 years McBride has dedicated his professional and personal efforts toward student success. In 2008, McBride was named the Outstanding Orientation Professional in the United States by the National Orientation Directors Association. In 2001, he was honored with Chancellor’s Exemplary Service to Students Award at Nebraska. Most recently his academic work includes a special focus on connecting international and out-of-state students through student engagement programming and activities to help them assimilate to the campus.

"Pat is certainly deserving of this award and the many others he's received," said Juan N. Franco, retired vice chancellor for student affairs. "He has always been a student of best practices in student success and has helped implement many of the successful programs we have on campus. He also is one of the best student mentors I have known. He has touched the lives of hundreds of students; and many owe their success, in part, to the guidance Pat provided."

McBride graduated from Benedictine College in 1976 with a degree in political science and began his career in student affairs as a resident director on the same campus. After completing his master’s degree at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, McBride returned to Benedictine as assistant dean of students. He began working for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1988.
