Care packages with an assortment of treats including snacks, Husker gear, and cold remedies.

As the fall semester winds down and students start to think about final exams, projects and their holiday plans, a thoughtful gift from a friend or family member can make all the difference. Whether you want to celebrate a birthday, help your favorite student get through a late night of studying, or send a get-well package, care packages from University Catering are the perfect way to brighten your Husker’s day.

“We find many students can get stressed, homesick, or need a little extra motivation or a reminder that someone at home is there to support them,” explains Abby Groth, assistant director of learning communities. “This service helps families send a quick care package when their student might be sick, a box of cookies with a heartfelt note when they need encouragement, or a care package to help them celebrate a moment when they might not be able to come home and visit their loved ones.”

Not only does the care package recipient get a reminder that they are cared for, but every care package purchase helps fund on-campus programming. As a matter of fact, 35% of every care package purchase goes to UNL’s Scarlet and Cream Chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH). This group of students living in University Housing provides leadership and feedback to better the lives of residents in the halls.

“NRHH uses these funds to develop residence hall leaders through training events, to develop service events that fund childhood cancer research, and to recognize great efforts supporting students living in the residence halls,” says Jacob Sherry, assistant director for assessment and leadership, who currently serves as the advisor to NRHH.
