New Activities Provide Excitement for International Welcome

The arrival experience for many international students coming to the U.S. for the first time can be full of the unknown – new language, new culture, new customs, new faces, new academic environment and more. This year the international welcome team piloted increased efforts to welcome students as soon as they arrive in Lincoln.

Campus Landmark Honors Legacy of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity

On Friday, Sept. 16, members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. returned to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus to celebrate the milestone of their 100-year-old chapter. Accompanied by family and Eta Chapter supporters, the gentlemen dedicated a 2,000-pound granite stone to the University as a symbol of the strength of the Kappa Alpha Psi as the first historically African-American fraternity at Nebraska.

Weather Doesn't Stop Husker Watch Party

Students and parents gathered to watch the Huskers defeat Northwestern on Sat., Sept. 24 for the Husker Watch Party. The event, which was first scheduled to take place at Memorial Stadium, was moved to the Nebraska Union due to rain. A highly anticipated Campus NightLife event, this year's watch party was co-sponsored by the UNL Parents Association as part of Family Weekend.

New Meeting Room in the Nebraska Union Honors Big Ten

Since the 1970s, the room in the southeast corner of the Nebraska Union housed a bank. However, when Wells Fargo left in February 2015, plans to repurpose the space began—and the end result will be the new Big Ten meeting room.

Union Take Over draws 450 students

On Thurs., Feb. 2, Campus NightLife hosted Union Take Over on the second floor of the Nebraska Union. An estimated 450 students enjoyed laser tag, glow-in-the-dark miniature golf, cupcake and tile decorating, a photo booth, and games of Family Feud led by The Daily Nebraskan. All activities were free for Nebraska students.

RSO workshops provide student groups with tools for success

Student Involvement hosted recognized student organization (RSO) workshops on risk management, motivation and inspiration, civil discourse and navigating the Student Organization Financial Services (SOFS).

Director of Risk Management and Insured Benefits Gayle Schanou, Outdoor Adventure Center Coordinator Todd Grier and Coordinator of Fraternity Life Jon Gayer led the risk management workshop on Feb. 14. The presenters discussed perceived risk and how to be prepared for unexpected situations.

Remodeled Georgian Suite open for reservations

The newly remodeled Georgian Suite offers a capacity of 125, expanding the Nebraska Unions room offerings on City Campus.

A remodel began in the summer 2016 and was completed this earlier this spring. The red drapes, dark tones and chandelier lighting synonymous with the older decor were replaced with lighter modern finishes and that match look of other newly renovated spaces like the Big Ten Room and Colonial Room.

Mandala Lounge unveiling kicks off JGMC & OASIS Week

On Monday, April 10, staff at the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center unveiled new canvas prints in the Mandala Lounge during the JGMC & OASIS Open House event.

A snapshot of the original culture center of 1950 flanks the left side of the gallery while photos from events like Lunar New Year, Dish It Up, the step show and InvAsian tell the story of the building and its associated programs. An image from the construction of the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center in 2009 completes the symmetrical pattern.
