BOO! Halloween is here with Jack Skellington's voice echoing through the night and the allure of Dia de Los Muertos celebrations on the horizon.

For Husker students joining in the festivities, it's crucial to keep a few things in mind when venturing out. Costume parties and gatherings may offer a thrill, but safety should always come first.

Remember that at many college parties, the alcohol served is not measured accurately, so it's crucial to keep track of your intake. A standard drink is either a 12-ounce beer, 5 ounces of wine, or 1.5 ounces of hard liquor.

  • Know Your Limits: Be mindful of your consumption and stick to your limits.
  • Guard Your Drink: Never leave your drink unattended. When you're not sipping on it, make sure it's covered to prevent any unwanted substances from being added.
  • Buddy Up: Use the buddy system when heading out to an event. Going out with a group of trusted friends provides an added layer of safety and support.
  • Share Your Location: Inform your friends of your whereabouts when you head out. In case you need assistance, they'll know how to reach you or come to your aid.
  • Be a Responsible Friend: If your friends need help, don't hesitate to call for assistance. Nebraska has a Good Samaritan Law to ensure they receive the necessary care without fear of repercussions.

With plenty of exciting events taking place at the end of October and the beginning of November, there's no shortage of fun to be had. Go out, have a blast, and most importantly, stay safe.
