The Harper Dining Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is limiting its ingredients to meet an increasing need. The dining center started offering allergen-friendly food full time at the start of the semester, after staff received positive feedback from the 8 Plus program testing.

Tuesday, January 30, 2018 Discounted faculty and staff meal pricing offered

New this year, faculty and staff can sign up to receive discounted meal pricing at most dining centers and Grab-N-Go locations across campus. More than 170 employees have already signed up to participate.

Through the program University Housing and Dining Services hope to increase opportunities for students to engage with faculty and staff. The anticipated revenue will help provide lower-cost meal plan options for students.

Friday, June 9, 2017 Pantry receives 8,000+ items from residence hall students

Last month nearly 6,000 students moved out of the residence halls at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. A partnership between the Residence Hall Association, Goodwill and the Huskers Helping Huskers Pantry+ offered students the chance to donate items on-site that they didn't want to move with them.

Over the course of approximately three weeks, donation bins collected 19,638 pounds of goods for Goodwill and more than 8,000 items for the pantry. Items commonly donated to the pantry included noodle soup, hot cocoa, oatmeal, cereal, soup, tuna, rice mixes, pasta and other snacks.

Wednesday, May 31, 2017 Housing office named to honor Doug Zatechka

Friends and colleagues of Doug Zatechka celebrated his many contributions to the university at a reception to name the Douglas S. Zatechka University Housing Office in the newly constructed Willa S. Cather Dining Complex. Zatechka served as director of University Housing for 34 years, retiring in 2010.

Story after story filled the air as colleagues munched on candied bacon, chocolate frosted donuts and chicken wings – a handful of Zatechka’s infamously favorite fares.

Thursday, May 4, 2017 Dining services begin at Cather Complex in June

The Willa S. Cather Dining Complex at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will begin serving meals after June 4. The three-story complex replaces the CPN Dining Center that will be razed along with Cather and Pound Residence Halls in the next year.

The new dining center, located on the second floor of the building at 530 N. 17th St., offers seating for 500 and two private dining rooms available by reservation. Multiple meal stations will offer dining variety, including a teppanyaki grill and woodstone-baked pizzas.

Tuesday, April 25, 2017 Data shows Nebraska students who live in University Housing more likely to graduate

A 2016 report from the Bureau of Sociological Research (BOSR) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln shows that living in University Housing positively impacts student graduation and retention rates.

The study, which analyzed housing rosters and graduation data from 2006 through 2016, found that first-year students living in University Housing were retained at 80.6 percent, as opposed to only 76.1 percent for students who never lived in University Housing.

Tuesday, April 11, 2017 University Housing moves to new office location

University Housing will be moving this week to their new office location on the third floor of the new Willa S. Cather Dining Complex at 530 N. 17th Street.

Departments will complete their move on Wed., April 13, however the office is open for business starting Monday, April 10. Those needing to come to the new location should enter the building at the south atrium entry and take the elevator to third floor.

The blog topics vary, but together the stories promote a campus-wide culture grounded in a multi-dimensional model of wellness.

Monday, March 13, 2017 Student cooking competition inspires delectable dishes

On Mar. 10, Campus NightLife hosted Foodie Fest, an event that combined a “Chopped” cooking competition with meal preparation demonstrations from Dining Services and a food drive for the Huskers Helping Huskers Pantry+.

Four teams competed in the cooking competition. At the start of the three rounds, hosts gave team members four ingredients to include in the dish they created. Campus NightLife also provided other ingredients. Teams had to create an idea for their dish, cook and plate it within the 30-minute time limit.
