Netflix

Over spring break, you've likely already burned through your list of TV shows on Netflix. Check out any of these shows for an engaging, entertaining series sure to become one of your new favorites.

Elite
Fans of “Gossip Girl,” “How to Get Away with Murder” or “Pretty Little Liars” will likely enjoy another new teen thriller, the Spanish crime drama “Elite.” Set in a highly exclusive private school, where class division and cliques are rampant, this show circles around a slowly-building murder mystery. Anyone could be the culprit, and this series successfully keeps you guessing. Unlike similar shows with endless twists and turns, seemingly for no reason, this show stays mindful of the central plot and thoroughly builds its characters into real people. Multiple “Elite” cast members also star in “Money Heist,” another Netflix Spanish crime series.

On My Block
If you’re searching for a slightly under-the-radar sitcom, consider checking out “On My Block.” It focuses on a group of teens living in a rough part of Los Angeles, dealing with gang violence, shootings, and deportation, but also the regular aspects of life such as relationships, treasure hunts, and sports. This show loves to switch tone and mix genre, but remains a story about a close-knit group of friends at its core. While things do get serious, “On My Block” will always return to lightening the mood with humor and fun.

Pose
Following a group of underdogs learning to create their own family, “Pose” explores the world of 1980 drag balls in New York City and those who participated in them. This show is overall a ton of fun to watch, as its lively visuals, elaborate costumes, and booming soundtrack make it an immersive and colorful experience. Underneath this extravagant showmanship, there is still room for intense emotional moments–you’ll grow to know and understand these characters, and root for the underdogs. Starring Billy Porter and inspired by the acclaimed documentary “Paris is Burning,” “Pose” is perfect if you’re searching to be swept off your feet by a TV series.

Russian Doll
If you’re on the hunt for a refreshingly unique and slightly odd show to binge, look no further than “Russian Doll”, co-created by Amy Poehler and starring Natasha Lyonne. Lyonne plays Nadia, celebrating her 36th birthday–but after a few hours, she keeps dying in various ways and waking back up in the middle of her party. This show has plenty of dark comedy while employing enough twists to stay interesting and not wear out its initial premise.

Good Girls
Far from what the title makes it sound like, the main characters in “Good Girls” are not that “good”. Following three struggling suburban moms who turn to crime, money laundering, and eventually murder coverups, this show is a one-of-a-kind crime series that ventures far from what you’d expect. With Christina Hendricks, Mae Whitman and Retta as the main cast, there’s also no shortage of acting talent on-screen. Each antihero mom has her own immersive arc, struggling to keep their hidden crimes a secret while maintaining income for their respective family and raising kids. The show raises questions of morality and looking out for your family while still being extremely funny, dark, and twisted. It’s a great option if you’re a crime TV fan but want a change of pace from other typical police shows.

The Good Place
Created by Michael Schur, the brain behind “The Office,” “Parks and Recreation” and “Brooklyn 99,” “The Good Place” is another soon-to-be classic comedy that has a completely unique premise and lovable characters. The show follows Eleanor, played by Kristen Bell, who mistakenly ends up in The Good Place after dying on earth, even though she wasn’t a moral person during life. However, the show will turn this entire plot on its head multiple times, with some of the best twists and turns in any recent series. Every core character has its own fantastic personality, and each episode is full of comedy and growth.
