Students, faculty and staff at Nebraska can register to lead small group conversations during this fall’s Husker Dialogues event.

The event will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Sept. 5 in the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

More than 3,400 incoming students participated in Husker Dialogues in 2018. Volunteers, called conversation guides, facilitated small group discussions to lay the foundation for practicing and engaging in conversations about diversity and inclusion.

“I have heard from many students that this experience encourages more than just conversation,” said Charlie Foster, assistant vice chancellor for student affairs. “Through this experience, students are transformed into the critical thinkers that they need to be in a diverse world. It’s rewarding that students, staff and faculty all get to be a part of that transformative moment.”

Volunteers will receive access to online training in late summer to help prepare them to host meaningful conversations. In-person conversation practice sessions also will be available.

This fall, the planning committee hopes to have 370 total conversation guides. Volunteer registration is available online.
